Body

Bitching way to make bike frames : buy filimant wound carbon fiber tubes, these are commonly available for sailboat masts and kayack oars.

cnc mold forms for each intersection.

These bolt down to a plate that has a grid of holes in it. So you can make different frame sizes by useing different length tubes and repositioning the molds.

Lay precut prepeg layers into the mold, lay in the tubes attached to aluminum foam or even wood cores, cover with second layer of prepreg and put the top half the mold on. they are held down with a bolt that has a washer and a spring. Bake the whole thing or have heaters in your mold sections.

Folding action

It would be nice to use the folding action to allow the batteries to go into one or more of the tubes.

At http://www.sandsmachine.com/ they have an excellent system for breaking down a bike into a suitcase - two couplings add ~60g. The coupling design be modifiable to allow folding instead of breaking down. Calfee uses them , see http://calfeedesign.com/coupler.htm

...A foldable electric bike with a chain guard, e.g. the Powacycle Lynx LPX or eZee Quando. These are more expensive and also heavier than the Strida, but they'll get you to the office without working up a sweat - especially if there are any hills to climb. Perhaps future designs will feature a lightweight monocoque frame that can double as a casing for the battery cells, protecting them from the elements as well as theft. A NuVinci CVT hub would also be a welcome addition.

A second, compatible idea would be a stowing kit plus charger that you could mount in the trunk of your car. Hook it up and your foldable bike's battery would be recharged while you drive, at a minimal fuel economy penalty. Then park the car and run errands around town or enjoy a ride in the country on the bike.

I've worked with and ridden most of the models Dahon sells in the US, as well as the Tikit, Pocket Tourist, New World Tourist, and Pocket Rocket from Bike Friday. Except for the Tikit, the Fridays serve a different purpose than the Dahons. As I explain to customers, if you want a bike to fold day in and day out as part of your commute, taking the bike on transit, the Dahon is the better choice. If you want a bike that fits and rides as much like your "normal" bike as possible, that you can carry on an airplane, unpack, and ride around at your destination, then get a Friday.
The Tikit changes that, as it is a brilliant "everyday folder" design. However, I still steer more folks to the Dahons than to the Tikit, largely due to price and simplicity. While the Tikit is a faster fold, the Dahon is a simpler fold, and most models fall far below the cost of a Tikit. Honestly though, you can't go wrong with either.
I own two Dahons, by the way... a Hon Solo and a Speed P8. Both are great bikes... fun to ride, and a snap to fold. The Solo wins on style, but it sure is nice to have the multiple gears on the Speed sometimes.

The 18650-3200 batteries from DLG will give max 3.2x4=12.8W each, if we have 20 of them thats 250W which is a little low. The 26650-2500 gives 2.5x10=25W each, 20 of them gets of 500W.

The size is given by the name - the 26650 are cylinders 26mm diameter and 65mm long.

Throttle

From EVDL: I've used a Hall Effect pedal in a scooter. It's nice; it works well. You probably won't notice the difference between a hall effect or pot, except that the hall effect pedal should last longer (because the pot has the wiper sliding and dealing with friction, whereas the hall effect works by magnetic fields, with no contact). -Morgan LaMoore
